College of Business Students Work to Create College Honor Code
A group of College of Business Students are working to implement an honor code throughout the college. In the Spring 2010 semester, an honor code conference was held at UW, and the beginning of the honor code was developed. Student participants at the conference constructed a statement to guide establishment of the honor code:
"As University of Wyoming College of Business students, faculty, staff, and administrators, we will uphold the values of honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness. We will conduct ourselves in ways that uphold these values in our academic pursuits and behave in ways that respect the University, the Community, and ourselves."
One might be asking, why does the college need an honor code? The presence of academic dishonesty is far too prevalent in educational institutions. This type of behavior not only harms the individual's education, but also lowers the value of the institutions degrees, while also establishing lifelong habits of dishonesty. By implementing an honor code, the college can emphasize honesty and integrity among students, establish these values as lifelong habits, establish a positive reputation for the college, improve the value of COB degrees, all while enhancing relationships among students and faculty.
