The main library (2009) has a new 92,765-square-feet addition to the east of the current building. Once the addition was completed, 188,656 gross square feet of existing building under went modifications. The facility contains offices and support space for Coe Library administration, collection, and technical services, and the Hebard Collection. In addition, the facility houses the Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning, the Writing Lab, Learning Commons (consultation rooms, group study rooms, and classrooms), Student Computer Commons (24-hour operation), a cafe, and Disability Support Services. The final facility should now meet the needs of the library far into the future and support student success through the learning centers. As a part of the total project, the facility known as the Science Library has recently been modified to accommodate high-density shelving. The Library Annex will provide for the maintenance of collections with limited-access collection management. The project was funded with a $45 million appropriation in 2005. The design process has continued since that time. Construction began the first part of August 2007 and took approximately two years to complete.
