Dear Jazz Educator,

The UW Vocal and Jazz faculties are combining forces for the University of Wyoming Vocal Jazz Workshop/Instrumental Jazz Workshop.  These workshops will focus on building skills and providing a range of experiences in both vocal and instrumental jazz. Students will have the opportunity to work with jazz faculty members Dr. Ben Markley (vocal jazz/jazz ensembles/combo), Dr. Scott Turpen (Jazz ensembles/combo), Dr. Nicole Lamartine (vocal jazz), and Ed Breazeale (jazz ensembles/combo).

Saturday’s evening concert will feature performances by the UW Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the UW Faculty Jazz Quartet with special guest vocalist Kate Skinner.

The Vocal Jazz Workshop:

• Workshop and performance by jazz vocalist Kate Skinner
• Vocal Jazz Interest sessions with UW faculty on: jazz improvisation, scat singing basics, stylistic elements of jazz singing, how to interpret a melody, jazz ensemble singing.
• Small group mentorship and master classes with talented UW Vocal Jazz students
• Performance by UW Vocal Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Ben Markley
• Performance by UW faculty members

The Instrumental Jazz Workshop:

A 30’ performance/clinic time for your high school or middle school jazz ensemble that will be adjudicated by University of Wyoming faculty: Scott Turpen, Ed Breazeale, and Ben Markley. Our jazz faculty boasts significant jazz performance experience and knowledge of pedagogy to help your jazz ensemble reach the next level.

Entry Fee:

• Vocal Jazz- $30 per student
• Instrumental Jazz- $100 per ensemble
• * Both fees include a ticket to the evening performance.

We are looking forward to hearing from you and working with your aspiring jazz singers.  Enclosed please find a tentative schedule, information on  Kate Skinner,and online registration information.  Registrations for this workshop need to be received by: Tuesday, January 18, 2013.  Cancellations received AFTER January 25, 2013 will be responsible for the full invoiced fee!
