was recently a featured article in the ESPN Outdoors online magazine. 

The headline read:  "Wyo. library highlights rare flyfishing books"

January 28, 2004-- Stephen Grace to read and sign his new novel UNDER COTTONWOODS: A Novel of Friendship, Fly-fishing and Redemption, on Friday, February 20 at 6:00 p.m. at Chickering Bookstore, 203 South Second Street, Laramie. A catered party at the Alibi pub will follow.  Please call (307) 742-8609.
 
Fall 2003-- Part-time club member Stephen Grace will have a novel, Under Cottonwoods, published by The Lyons Press in February 2004.  Under Cottonwoods is a lyrical novel of two Wyoming friends who are drawn together by their love of fly fishing and the outdoors.  Stephen indicates that a portion of the proceeds from the book will be donated to Splore, a nonprofit group based in Salt Lake City that provides outdoor recreation to people with disabilities, including fly-fishing trips on the Green River below Flaming Gorge. Much of the inspiration for the novel was provided during just such a trip.   
 
February 5, 2003-- The Flycasters Club had its first meeting for the Spring 2003 semester.  Club president Scott Carleton discussed many events that are up and coming for the club.  The finishing touches are being put on the 2003 Anglers Symposium.  The club will be scheduling a clean up day at Meebor Lake soon.  Club members were asked to help with a restoration project in conjunction with the Wyoming Game and Fish and the American Fisheries Society.  The club has scheduled a trip to Saratoga in March to visit the fish hatchery.  David Perkins, a local rod builder, spoke to club members about building their own rods.  After the general meeting, Don White from Four Seasons Anglers spoke about winter fly fishing.  Don gave a verbal tour as well as some wonderful pictures of great winter fly fishing.    
December 3, 2002-- The Flycasters Club had its December Christmas party/meeting.  There were many door prizes given way, lots of pizza eaten, and fun all around.  Club President Scott Carleton spoke shortly on the progress of the Symposium and thanked all those who are putting so much effort into helping organize the symposium.   Scott announced that guests for the symposium will be Jack Dennis and Kelly Galloup.  The theme of the symposium will be Cutthroat Trout.  Scott reminded everyone about the upcoming presentation "Medicine Bow National Forest/Western Trout"  by Biodiversity Associates in conjunction with American Fisheries Society.  Eric Bonds will be talking about threats to the Medicine Bow National Forest and Native Trout of Western NA.  Meeting to be held December 5th at 6:00 pm in the Biological Sciences Bldg Room 309.  There was no presentation for this meeting, but many club members did go out for bowling and fun after the party.
November 5, 2002-- The Flycasters Club had its November Meeting.  Club President Scott Carleton discussed the upcoming events for the club which includes the Christmas party in December as well as planning for events in the spring semester.  The club is gearing up for the annual Anglers Symposium and is getting the necessary committees arranged.  Door prizes were given out and then the group adjourned upstairs to enjoy a presentation by Nick Boyd entitled "Wind Rivers and Golden Trout".
October 19, 2002-- The Flycasters Club went on a fishing trip to Red Buttes lake.  The UW chapter of the American Fisheries Society helped coordinate this special treat for the members of the club to wet their lines in a lake that is not open to public fishing and where the fish are primed for a fight.  Many members landed several different species of fish with varying sizes to match.  A good time was had by all.
October 8, 2002-- The Flycasters Club had its October meeting.  Scott Carleton gave a presentation called 'Home Waters'.  This presentation showed different fishing spots in and around the Laramie area and the types of fish present in these waters.  Members were able to sign up for the upcoming outing on October 19th and get information about the fly tying and casting sessions.  Door prizes were donated by Ed Schmidtman, West Laramie Fly Store, and Four Seasons Anglers.  Four Seasons Anglers announced that all club members can get 10% off of fly tying materials at the store.  They are also offering a fly tying class that is $40.00 for four classes.
September 24, 2002-- University Flycasters Club held its first informational meeting of this academic year.  Scott Carleton, current club president, welcomed back new members as well as old.  Plans for the club this year include having monthly club meetings as well as monthly fly tying sessions, fly casting sessions, and a monthly club outing.  There will a raffle at each monthly meeting to raffle off fishing gear donated by various businesses in town.  The first outing of the year will be on October 19th.  This outing is in coordination with the American Fisheries Association.  Club members will be allowed to fish in an area that is normally off limits to public fishing.
