Patrick and Nora Ivers ~ Honoring What They Love
Patrick and Nora Ivers are passionate and dedicated people. They traveled the world, serving as an English teacher and a librarian for the Department of Defense in far-flung places such as Europe, Australia, and Bahrain, all the while soundly investing their assets so that they could retire in their forties. A writer by profession, Patrick remains active in the community tutoring math students at LCCC, while Nora recently retired from her job as children’s librarian at Albany County Public Library.
As music lovers, they are interested in the intersection of music with math and science. And so they established the Maurice and Alma McElhone Symphony Scholarship, which honors Nora’s parents and is awarded to students in UW’s Symphony Orchestra who are also majoring in engineering. If no engineering majors qualify, math or physical science majors are considered. The Ivers are also remembering UW’s students in their estate, where they will support the UW Libraries, music outreach, and science and math graduate students.
Their passion is spreading. The parents of two students who received the McElhone Scholarship were so moved that they are considering a gift to UW through their estates.
Patrick and Nora are much-cherished members of the UW family, and we cannot thank them enough for all they have done and continue to do for UW.
