The UW Legacy Society

People who give to the University of Wyoming are a select breed. You may recognize them by the brown and gold stickers on their cars or by the look of pride on their faces when you mention Wyoming. They also may be zealous supporters of the Pokes. They are practical and idealistic at the same time. They believe in education and investing in the future.

The University of Wyoming Foundation Legacy Society was established in 1991 to recognize just these people and thank the many alumni and friends who have so generously made an estate commitment or a deferred gift to the University of Wyoming.

The following deferred and estate gifts qualify donors for membership:

• Bequests
• Charitable remainder trusts
• Charitable gift annuities
• Life estates

• Retirement plan assets
• Charitable lead trusts
• Life insurance policies

Benefits may include an invitation to Legacy Society events, the biannual Cowboy Legacy newsletter, a Legacy Society lapel pin, a listing in the newsletter (unless you wish to remain anonymous), and more.

The Impact of the Legacy Society

Legacy Society members have had a huge impact on the UW programs or areas that they designate.

Here are some examples:

• A scholarship that supports students in the college from which they graduated
• A travel stipend for graduate students and/or faculty to present their research
• A contribution to the department from which the donor graduated that can be applied where it is most needed
• A fund to support Cowboy and Cowgirl athletics
• A research fund that helps graduate students and faculty perform cutting-edge research
• A named professorship or deanship
• A named gift that contributes to the construction of a new building
• A named gift that creates a program
