Join a Sorority

Member chapters of the Panhellenic Council at the University of Wyoming participates in Formal Recruitment and informal recruitment each fall semester. The three (3) organizations, which are members of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) participate in the Formal Recruitment process (explained in greater detail below), while the Associate Chapters (non-NPC) conduct their recruitment process informally. For these chapters, they will conduct their primary recruitment following the Formal Recruitment process. The two chapters that currently practice this informal recruitment process are Sigma Alpha and Phi Sigma Rho Colony (Engineering Sorority).

What is Formal Recruitment?

Formal Recruitment is a very structured recruitment process. Women that are interested in joining an NPC sorority must go through this process if they are interested in joining a chapter at the beginning of the fall semester. Chapters that have openings still available following fall recruitment, may still be able to fill open membership spots, but there are no guarantees that this option is available for all chapters.

To participate in Formal Recruitment, you will need to register and pay the non-refundable $25 fee. This fee goes to support the activities and expenses that are incurred through the recruitment process for each prospective member. Once registered, members will participate in Sorority Recruitment Orientation where each day and the full recruitment process will be explained, additional chapter information provided, and ladies will meet their assigned recruitment counselors who help guide ladies through the Formal Recruitment process.

On the first day, ladies will follow their assigned schedule and visit each sorority participating in Formal Recruitment. At the end of the day, ladies will identify their top two choices. The chapter conducts a similar review of members they met with that day. This information goes through a computer system and a schedule for the second day is created and distributed. On day two, ladies will visit up to two chapters. The presentations, conversations, and topics in the chapters during day two are different than day one.

At the conclusion of day two, ladies will complete their ranking of chapters again and new schedules will be provided for day three (called Preference Day). At the conclusion of day three, ladies and chapters each respectfully will complete their own preferences once again. This time, the results will indicate which chapters they will receive a bid from (called Bid Day).
