Intellectual Events for First-Year Students

Cowboy Connect Discoveries include activities to explore campus throughout the day on Saturday, August 31. Each student is required to attend at least one of these Discoveries. Read the event descriptions below and then sign up using the link at the bottom of this page.

Everest:
The Myths,
the Madness and the Macabre

Once again, climbers have died on Everest. It happens every year. This spring eleven climbers died on the world’s tallest mountain. Why? National Geographic Writer and Wyoming native Mark Jenkins has climbed Mt. Everest and has the answers. Using photography, Jenkins reveals the risks and realities of climbing Everest today—why and how people die; why it costs so much; why there a long lines to reach the summit; why the problems on Everest are more about cash and cachet than commitment, compassion or candor. 1:00-2:00pm A&S Auditorium 1800
