2018 WY STARTALK Arabic Camp

STARTALK is an initiative by the U.S. federal government that seeks to increase the number of Americans learning, speaking, and teaching critical need foreign languages.

WHAT is the Wyoming STARTALK Arabic Camp?

The 2018 Wyoming STARTALK Arabic Camp is an intensive, residential summer language program. For the 2018 camp, “Arabian Nights,” the intrigue and mystique surrounding these popular tales from Arabic epic literature will take on a modern spin by introducing students to both emblematic stories and themes, as well as contemporary experiences of evening and night activities in various Arabic-speaking countries.

The program aims to spark interest in, appreciation for, and enjoyment of Modern Standard Arabic and the cultures that speak it, while bringing students to a novice-mid level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

WHEN and WHERE does the camp take place?

The 2018 Wyoming STARTALK Arabic Camp will be held July 22 - August 11, 2018. Participants will spend the first week team-building and participating in outdoor recreation activities at Table in the Wilderness conference center in Centennial, WY. The camp then moves on to the University of Wyoming campus. Participants are housed in UW’s residence halls and classes are held on-site, with some approved field trips off-site.

HOW MUCH does the camp cost?

UW’s 2018 WY STARTALK Arabic Camp is FREE to those accepted into the program. All expenses are covered under the STARTALK Program grant and administered by the University of Wyoming.
