Research Question
This research analyses US foreign policy decision making while mediating between India and Pakistan in a conflict over Kashmir in 1999, which had nuclear overtones.

Significance
His fieldwork should reveal the nature of the decision making in the US foreign policy establishment and the contributions different actors made to the resolution of this crisis.

Methods Used
Raman’s fieldwork includes archival research at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas and at the National Archives in Washington D.C. as well as interviews of key personalities involved in decision making in both the US and India.

Conclusions/Outcomes
With the on-going transformation in US-India strategic relations, the expertise gained by him in this field will directly contribute to his career growth in the Indian military and help promote US-India ties.
