Dr. Jean Garrison is the director of the Center for Global Studies and professor of international studies and political science at UW. Since fall 2017 she is serving as the special assistant to the president for engagement and chairing UW's Engagement Task Force. In Fall 2015 she was a fellow at the Kolleg-Forschergruppe (KFG) – Transformative Power of Europe at the Freie Universität Berlin and is the past recipient of a Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellowship and has worked in the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs in the U.S. State Department. She also has been a visiting fellow with the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation in Washington, DC. Her teaching and research interests focus on U.S. foreign policy with an emphasis on U.S.-China relations, leadership, small group dynamics, and energy security. She holds a BA from UW and PhD from the University of South Carolina. Jean has roots in northern Wyoming and is a graduate of Tongue River High School in Dayton, WY.
