CALL FOR FACULTY PARTICIPANTS

-UW in JERUSALEM-

Join UW in Jerusalem to build your research capacity, establish international connections, think across disciplines, and make opportunities for our students and state in the Middle East.

UW in Jerusalem is a Signature Program within the Center for Global Studies. It will convene UW faculty from across the disciplines, bring them into conversation around the challenges, resources and opportunities of a unique place; support a community of approximately twelve faculty for transdisciplinary exploration in Jerusalem; feature those faculty as field experts in conversation with their UW colleagues and colleagues in Israel/Palestine; facilitate relationship-building with colleagues and institutions in the region; establish the foundation for future Jerusalem-based research and teaching led by UW faculty.

GRANTS TO SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES AT UW

- CALL FOR PROPOSALS -

The Center for Global Studies aims to raise UW’s international profile for its outstanding research and creative activity by encouraging and supporting international conferences to be held at the University of Wyoming. To that end, we have developed a seed/planning grant program. Apply NOW for funding to support a conference in 2021-22, 2022-23, or 2023-24. The funding will be available to you in the year of your conference, and will enable you to launch your planning or your conference bid this year.

Center for Global Studies Faculty & Staff International Research Grant - Supplemental Spring 2021 Competition for Fiscal Year 2021 Funding

The UW Center for Global Studies (CGS) invites applications for projects that advance international research, creativity, and engagement.  Awards are up to $5000, and may be sought for activities such as collaboration with a current or prospective UW international partner institution, research outside the U.S., or research focused on international topics relevant to UW and the state of Wyoming.  Awards under this supplemental Spring 2021 call must be expended by the end of May 2021.

AWARD SOURCE

These awards are made possible by the support of Academic Affairs, and the UW Research and Economic Development Division.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Only internationally oriented proposals will be considered, with priority given to research and creative activity that advance the emerging GEO strategic framework for comprehensive internationalization.  See UW Strategic Plan for Global Engagement for context.
  • Applications must include a brief proposal narrative, adequate to explain the project and make the case, and a detailed, feasible, and cost efficient budget, noting any existing funding.
  • Prior recipients of this grant are not excluded, but previous research grant outcomes will be considered in the evaluation.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

  • Degree to which the proposed research project advances the emerging GEO strategic framework for comprehensive internationalization outlined in the UW Strategic Plan for Global Engagement (link above).
  • Alignment with the department/academic unit's curriculum and international research goals.
  • Overall viability, relevance, and proposed deliverables of the proposed research project (e.g., scholarly publications, international co-authorship, etc.).
  • Cost efficiency and budget justification.
  • Other factors include the extent to which the project 1) can be leveraged for external funding support, 2) advances interdisciplinary collaboration, 3) may persist beyond this initial funding, 4) exhibits potential to expand UW's international research portfolio, and, 5) enhances UW's international reputation and global standing.
  • Prompt use of funds.

Unless explicitly related to the proposed research project, applications for participation in international conferences, seminars, symposia, and related professional development opportunities will not be considered.  Given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, proposals for capacity building for international research may be considered (e.g. virtual collaborations, project pre-planning and materials acquisition, foreign language skills development, etc.).  Since these are Fiscal Year 21 funds, all grant funds must be expended by the end of the month of May and cannot be deferred.  Travel may occur after this date, as long as grant funds can be expended in advance.

DEADLINES

Applications are due by 5:00pm MT, Wednesday, May 5th. Grant funds are from the present Fiscal Year 21 and therefore must be expended by the end of May 2021, with all charges reconciled by mid June.

Notifications will be sent out Friday, May 14th to allow for the expenditure of funds by the end of the month.  Questions, applications, and supporting materials should be sent to Shawn Bunning, shawnb@uwyo.edu.

INFORMATION FOR RECIPIENTS

  • Grant recipients must submit a summary of their work completed under this award by December 1, 2021:  shawnb@uwyo.edu.
  • Grant funds must be spent in consultation with the GEO Accountant to ensure timely processing of transactions.
  • Grants cannot be deferred.

SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS

UW faculty or staff applications submit all application materials collated as a single .doc, .docx, or .pdf file via e-mail to shawnb@uwyo.edu by 5:00pm MT on Wednesday, May 5th.

Questions can be addressed to Shawn Bunning, Assistant Director for Research and Development, Center for Global Studies, shawnb@uwyo.edu.

Reporting Requirement for Faculty & Staff International Research Grants:

CGS Research Grant award winners must complete and send a report to Shawn Bunning, the Assistant Director for Research and Development in the Center for Global Studies, within six (6) months of receipt of the grant award letter.  If the project requires more than 6 months to complete, an extension to this deadline may be granted pending written request to CGS.  The report should document all activities planned under the original proposal, whether or not they have taken place, their level of success, and a description of future steps to be taken.  Be prepared to share your results in a presentation on or off campus following completion of your project, and to be highlighted in a subsequent campus International Research Symposium organized by CGS.
