University of Wyoming Calendar for Sept. 30-Oct. 6

Friday, Sept. 30, 2:30-4 p.m. -- The University of Wyoming will dedicate a monumental sculpture to Shoshone Chief Washakie in a colorful ceremony south of the Washakie Dining Center on Grand Avenue. Free.

Friday, Sept. 30, 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. -- UW Planetarium laser shows, 6:30 p.m., "Laser Laughs"; 8 p.m., "Shores of the Cosmic Ocean," across from the Science Library. Tickets for each show cost $2 for students and senior citizens, $3 for the public and free for children age five and under.

Friday, Sept. 30, 7:30 p.m. -- UW Department of Music presents a multi-media show featuring guest saxophonist John Sampen, Fine Arts Center concert hall. Tickets cost $5 for students and senior citizens, and $7 for others.

Friday, Sept. 30, 9 p.m. -- UW Campus Activities Center presents comedians Sean Kent and Craig Carmean, UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Free.

Saturday, Oct. 1, 8 a.m.-noon -- UW Delta Delta Delta sorority hosts “Cakes for the Cure,” an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tri Delta chapter house, 1616 E. Sorority Row. Tickets, available at the door, cost $3 each or $5 per couple.

Sunday, Oct. 2, 8 p.m. -- UW Cultural Programs presents 14-year-old pianist Ji-Yong, UW Fine Arts Center concert hall. Tickets cost $9 for students and senior citizens, and $12 for others.

Thursday, Oct. 6, 7-9 p.m. -- UW Thursday Night Garden Party presents the rock band “Looker,” Wyoming Union Gardens, Free.

Thursday, Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m. -- UW Symphony Orchestra presents Tchaikovsky’s “Fourth Symphony” with marimba soloist Steve Barnhart, UW Fine Arts Center concert hall. Tickets cost $6 for students, $7 for senior citizens, and $10 for others.

Art exhibitions, Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. -- "Painting the American West"; "John Hull: Pictures from Sonny's Place"; "Insects, Reptiles, and Figures: Designs from Southwestern Basketry," and "Old Masters Paintings at the University of Wyoming," from the UW Art Museum’s permanent collection, Centennial Complex, 2111 Willett Drive. Free.
