Courtney Carlson is Assistant Director of academic programs at the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. Originally from Wisconsin, Carlson earned a B.A. in English from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. She has worked in a variety of fields, including social work and higher education administration. In Bend, Oregon, she spent three years at the state's first collaborative campus, a partnership led by Oregon State University and including the University of Oregon and Central Oregon Community College. Her duties at the emerging campus included student recruitment, public relations, and academic program development. Carlson earned her M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Nonfiction)/Environment and Natural Resources at UW. Her creative thesis was titled I Came Here to Leave and examined modes of decomposition and (re)composition in a range of subjects through audio, visual, and conventional text essays. At UW, Carlson has taught courses in academic units including English, University Honors, and ENR. She is especially interested in the ways in which the fine arts can expand and enhance environmental understanding.
