Barbara Jean “BJ” Bender found her stride as an undergraduate student at the University of Wyoming, where she earned a double major in rangeland ecology and watershed management along with environment and natural resources. She also minored in Spanish and completed the Honors Program.

Following her graduation last spring, the UW Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources named her its 2016 Outstanding Graduate, recognizing her as an exceptional student who engaged in interdisciplinary environmental scholarship, service, and community building.

Soon after, she interviewed for a rangeland manager position at the Natural Resource Conservation Service office in Buffalo, Wyoming. The NRCS hired her for the position, and she will start later this year. “I’m hoping I get to work with a lot of ranchers,” she says.
