Jeremy Wins Prestigious Boren Fellowship to Senegal

Jeremy Goldsmith in Senegal

Congratulations to Jeremy Goldsmith who won a National Security Education Program David L. Boren Fellowship to study for the 2017-18 academic year in Senegal and improve his fluency of the Wolof language, which he started to learn during a Peace Corps mission. Jeremy is a University of Wyoming master’s degree candidate in international studies and environment and natural resources.

During his fellowship, he will work with the International Organization for Migration in Dakar, Senegal, to conduct a comparative study of Senegalese and Gambian migrant perspectives. This will expand research he started as a graduate student at UW to understand motivating factors driving the relocation of Gambian migrants and the out-migration crisis in West Africa.

Boren Fellowships fund graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions that are critical to US interests. Jeremy is pictured above with his Gambian translators. Read the full article about Jeremy’s award here.
