Exploring Queensland's Human & Physical Landscapes

Course & Travel Dates: May-June 2021 
ENR 4890/5890 | 3 credit hours

Travel to the Land Down Under on this 19-day field course and gain an understanding of the environmental, economic, political, and sociocultural issues that shape space, place, and society in one of Australia’s most populated and environmentally threatened coastal regions.

Focusing on the dynamics of coupled natural and human systems, students will explore and apply a wide range of field techniques – observational, analytic, and interpretive - working with both UW course leaders and local experts. Field experiences will include the urban environs of Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, and surrounding rural hinterlands, Glass House Mountains, Noosa Biosphere Reserve, Fraser Island, and the Lady Elliot Island Great Barrier Reef Coral Cay.

  • Junior standing (open to all UW students, preference given to Haub School students)

  • Passport valid for travel to Australia, plus Australian Electronic Travel Authority Visa

  • Financial contribution from each student: $4500* (estimated cost, subject to change) + Education Abroad fee & travel insurance cost 

  • Cheney Study Abroad Grants available - dependent on qualifying GPA

*dependent on exchange rate (includes, RT airfare, lodging, transportation, & entrance fees - does not include meals ~$500)
