Course & Travel Dates:
January 3-15, 2020 | 12 day travel to Tenerife

Spring: ENR 4900/5900 (3 credits, C3) | Tuesdays 2:10-3:50

From traditional agricultural practices to national parks, tourism impacts to desalination for freshwater needs, in ENR 4900/5900, Environmental Assessment in the European Union, you will discover a complex web of environmental challenges on the ground. Students will travel to Tenerife—one of Spain’s Canary Islands—to explore the landscape of the volcanic island chain off the coast of Morocco. Working with faculty members from Universidad de La Laguna in Tenerife, as well as with UW faculty, you and your classmates will spend most days in the field, with supplemental lectures in the classroom during the ten-day immersion trip. Following travel, you will take on a specific project set in Tenerife and examine it in light of the European Union's environmental assessment practices.
