Staff Position


The Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Wyoming seeks an accountant.

Essential Duties

Work with the Haub School director and directors of the Haub School units to develop budgets prior to the fiscal year. Track and manage all expenditures. Be the key person who knows at any time how much money is available.

Work with the Haub School Director to develop and maintain monthly summaries within and across all accounts (~35 at this time), including endowment, gift, contract, scholarship, grants and state funds.

Analyze budgets for presenting to the Advisory Board, legislators, or others, using discretion and knowledge of the purpose of each expenditure to generate meaningful analysis for outside constituents, as well as support internal prioritization.

Guide directors through appropriate paperwork, processes, and procedures for both classified staff and academic personnel.

Maintain records and summaries for the organization, including gifts and communications with donors. Interact with all staff to make sure there is a streamlined database of outside constituents.

Train and oversee support staff including one to two full-time individuals.

Maintain inventory of Haub School equipment, prepare property disposal requests. Set up and maintain a records management system for Haub School records (paper and electronic). Ensure maintenance and necessary repairs of office equipment, including computer equipment. Also provide means for back-up of computer files, and research and provide recommendations for upgrading of equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's level degree and one year of relevant experience in finance or accounting or a combination of education and comparable experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of experience managing different types of budgets such as endowments, grants, gifts, etc.
  • Evidence of experience with the process of hiring various types of employees.
  • Evidence of experience in supervising employees.
  • Evidence of being a positive influence while working as a team member, and working independently.
