Committee Charge


The University of Wyoming Homecoming Ideal:
Homecoming at the University of Wyoming is a tradition that affects a wide audience of participants including students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and members of the Laramie community. The ideal Wyoming Homecoming will grow beyond an athletic competition to a celebration of the spirit and tradition of the University of Wyoming, which is inclusive of all members of the university community. Homecoming continues to be the return of alumni to the alma mater, but is also a celebration of the total community which comprises the University of Wyoming. Meaningful student involvement with the coordination of and participation in Homecoming is strong, providing the foundation for loyal and involved alumni, parent and Laramie community members in the future. In the Homecoming Ideal, the Homecoming celebration is a tradition that inspires loyalty, enthusiasm and unity for the institution.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Homecoming Committee will be to provide a Homecoming program that is a celebration of the spirit and traditions of the University of Wyoming. The Homecoming program shall be inclusive of all members of the Laramie community. The traditions of the University will be preserved and the new traditions started which will enhance the spirit of the university and the state.

Structure:
The Homecoming Committee will be comprised of students, faculty, staff, and community members representing the university community. The committee will be chaired by a student appointed by the UW President from recommendations from the ASUW President and the Homecoming Advisor. General criteria for selection of a Chair may include: possession of significant programming and coordination skills; ability to develop rapport with all members of the university community; and an understanding of the Homecoming ideal. This committee will meet regularly as deemed necessary by the Chair and the demands of the program. The homecoming chair and committee will be advised by the Assistant Director for Activities and Programs (Campus Activities Center).

The Executive Board of the Homecoming Committee comprised of individuals representing each entity of the university community will meet regularly, as deemed necessary by the Chair, for the purpose of dealing with central issues and serving as an advisory body to the Homecoming Committee Chair.

Powers and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Homecoming Committee shall be to:

  1. Coordinate a Homecoming celebration which is inclusive of all members of the university community as defined in the purpose.
  2. Develop and/or coordinate resources (monetary, human, time, etc.) in support of the program.
  3. Encourage and support programs by various groups in the university community, which advance the Homecoming Ideal.
  4. Produce Homecoming programs and events as a committee of the whole contributing to the overall program.
  5. Direct and/or coordinate general Homecoming publicity, which includes theme development, logo design, poster/calendar of activities, and media information.
  6. Advocate for involvement of all constituents of the university community in Homecoming.

Responsibilities of the Executive Board shall be to:

  1. Evaluate the overall program and provide feedback to the General Committee.
  2. Serve as an advisory body for the Chair.
  3. Arbitrate conflicts between various groups and entities associated with Homecoming.
  4. Manage financial resources under the general control of the Homecoming Committee (i.e. fund raising income, budgeted dollars for general use, logo royalties).
  5. Manage all matters related to University of Wyoming Homecoming logo design and memorabilia rights.
  6. Coordinate resource development for University of Wyoming Homecoming.

Membership:
Members of the Homecoming Committee must be committed to advancing the central Homecoming program and as a result will enhance programming in their particular area of representation. The pursuit of the University of Wyoming Homecoming Ideal with a balance of involvement by all members of the university community should be a central focus of each member. Identification of specific individuals and groups for service as members of the Committee is to provide continuity and equitable representation.
