Honors Program Requirements

  • Grade Point Average Requirement: Honors Students must maintain a minimum cumulative institutional 3.25 GPA.
  • Enrollment Requirement: Honors Students must enroll in a minimum of one Honors class every three semesters.
  • No Academic Dishonesty: Any Honors Student found guilty of Academic Dishonesty, as defined by UNIREG 6-802 and outlined in the Honors Program Academic Dishonesty Policy, will be dropped from the program and will not be eligible for readmission.

Review of Records and Notification of Students

Student records will be reviewed at the end of every semester, and students whose cumulative institutional GPAs have fallen beneath the minimum requirement will be notified that they are no longer in good standing, and have one semester to demonstrate significant improvement in their GPA.  Students who fail to achieve the minimum GPA after two semesters will be dropped from the program.

Students who have failed to enroll in an Honors Course for three semesters will be notified that they are no longer in good standing. If they do not enroll in an Honors Course in the following semester, they will no longer be eligible for the program

Appeals process for Extraordinary Circumstances

If a student’s ineligibility is the result of a truly extraordinary circumstance, the student may appeal to the Program Director.  Based on the student’s circumstances, the Director may work with the student on a contract that outlines the conditions to be met and the progress to be made in order for the student to regain good standing and remain in the Honors Program.

Honors Privileges

A student must be in good standing in order to receive the privileges associated with the program.  Students who are not in good standing will be considered on probation, and will not be eligible for priority registration, Honors Scholarships, or to take Honors Classes until they have regained good standing.  The one exception to this policy is first-year students who fail to meet the program minimum GPA in the Fall semester. These students will retain their privileges for Spring semester

Regaining Admission

A student may reapply to the program when he/she has improved his/her cumulative institutional GPA to 3.25.
