Tim Nichols

Tim Nichols
Tim Nichols teaches Honors Colloquium, Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of Education, and upper division Honors courses. He grew up in Washington's Yakima Valley and earned degrees in Agriculture and Adult Education at Washington State University, and a Ph.D. in Rural Sociology from South Dakota State University. At SDSU, Nichols was Assistant Dean for the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences before being named Dean of the Honors College. He spearheaded collaborative efforts with the state's tribal colleges, and campus student leadership, undergraduate research, and common reading initiatives; he was principal investigator on more than $7 M in grants, and led study abroad experiences in Bolivia, Costa Rica, Greece, and the Galapagos Islands. Tim served two terms as President of the Upper Midwest Honors Council, presented at the National Collegiate Honors Conference, and been published in journals relating to Native American education, agricultural education, leadership education, and Honors education. In Laramie, Tim is on the UW Native American Advisory Committee, and on the board for Albany County United Way, the UW Art Museum, the UW Symphony, and he hosts the First Gentleman's Literary Circle. He is married to University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols; they have two daughters.
