Job Purpose:

Under limited supervision, develops educational program lessons to meet the needs of participants and teaches classes with lessons pertaining to the Cent$ible Nutrition Program information such as nutrition, food preparation, food safety, and sanitation skills to qualified individuals and groups through federal programs; provides training to state agency personnel; markets program through demonstrations, display boards, posters, and news articles on radio, television and in newspapers; and prepares program reports, statistics, and maintains program records for assigned county or counties.

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration, or Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Nutrition, safe food preparation, food storage, shopping, and budgeting methods, concepts and practices.
  • Training theory, concepts, methods, practices and techniques.
  • Lesson and demonstration planning based on needs of program participants.
  • Assessment and analysis techniques, procedures and practices.
  • Communication theory, methods, concepts, and techniques.
  • State or other agencies' services and program referrals.
  • Recognition of neglect and abuse and reporting and documentation requirements.
  • Records management methods, concepts and practices.
  • Marketing strategies, theory, and methods.

Skills and Abilities to:

  • Safely operate food preparation equipment.
  • Effectively communicate with diverse population.
  • Develop lesson plans and teaching demonstrations based on need.
  • Teach nutrition, food purchasing, budgeting, food preparation, and safe handling and sanitation skills and techniques.
  • Develop displays, posters, and news articles, radio and television advertising for marketing program.
  • Maintain records including data entry and creating reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Work with in-kind funding matches according to program procedures and policies.
  • Make referrals to appropriate programs or agencies.
  • Report neglect, abuse, and possible suicide as directed by supervisor.
  • Move up to 10 pounds regularly.
  • Work as a team member and foster a cooperative team work environment.

Characteristc Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Recruit and train qualified program individuals and groups such as families, senior citizens, individuals, and youth (elementary school children, teenagers, and young adults) about nutritional requirements, how to use food supplies more effectively, how to effectively budget, how to prepare nutritional meals, and food storage and safety by traveling to home sites within designated county or counties, or providing group presentations and class lessons at different facilities such as WIC, Best Beginnings, Head Start, Department of Family Services, Health Fairs and Senior Centers.

Develop and adapt training to meet the needs of various program participants including diverse age audiences (elementary, teenagers, young adults, adults, and senior citizens) and people with disabilities.

Present training through program lessons and demonstrations at special facilities such as day care facilities, elementary schools, alternative high schools, senior centers, and provide flexible and innovative ways to teach at these facilities under their rules and inspections and under different room setups and work environments.

Accept referrals from multiple agencies and refer qualified participants to appropriate agencies.

Maintain records and confidentiality on recruited individuals and families to comply with federal and Program reporting requirements.

Report problems of neglect, abuse, suicide, and the like directly to supervisor; discuss problem issues with supervisor and take appropriate action following program or agency guidelines, or when immediate danger is suspected, follow requirements of reporting incident immediately to the appropriate agency and advise supervisor of incident.

Provide leadership and program guidance for the agency personnel and program participants; be knowledgeable about program information, processes, and records.

Coordinate, and teach monthly nutrition lessons; plan, develop and participate in special public relations events; participate in conferences/meetings and committees.

Market the program through displays, one-time presentations to groups, radio and television advertising and programs, news articles and success stories, and contacts with multiple agency personnel.

Stay updated in nutrition by regularly attending in-service training via compressed video, teleconferences, videos, library research, conferences, staff meetings, and reading nutrition materials.

Supplemental Functions:

Make recommendations regarding program needs (supplies, equipment, and lesson changes) and contribute to monthly newsletters.

Provide data entry into database program, maintain program statistics, and provide reports; maintain supply and equipment purchase records.

Working Conditions:

Works in home/office/community center/detention center/and school environments. Regularly travels throughout designated county or counties; exposed to adverse weather conditions; subject to communicable diseases or health conditions; subject to hazards associated with food preparation and storage.

Distinguishing Features:

Cent$ible Nutrition Program Assistant provides, under general supervision, lesson preparation, training at alternate locations or facilities including schools and community centers, and provides nutritional program information and referrals based on needs of program participants and program rules and procedures, and reports program outcomes and expenditures in designated county(ies).  

Cent$ible Nutrition Program Associate provides, under limited supervision, development of lessons, training at alternate locations and facilities including schools and community centers, and provides nutritional program information and referrals based on needs of program participants and program rules and procedures, reports program outcomes and expenditures in designated county(ies) and assists with program improvement.

Cent$ible Nutrition Program Coordinator under very limited supervision provides leadership, guidance and coaching to Cent$ible Nutrition Program Assistants and Cent$ible Nutrition Program Associates, assists with development of and participates in providing training covering multiple counties in the state to program participants or others according to program rules, regulations and procedures, develops and manages the marketing aspect for the nutrition program for the assigned areas, maintains program records, statistics, and expenditures, assists with program assessments, and provides input on program delivery.

Cent$ible Nutrition Program Coordinator, Senior provides leadership, guidance and supervision to Cent$ible Nutrition Program Assistants, Cent$ible Nutrition Program Associates, and Cent$ible Nutrition Program Coordinators, oversees development of and participates in providing training covering a large area throughout the state to program participants or others according to program rules, regulations and procedures, develops and manages the marketing aspect for the nutrition program for the assigned areas, maintains program records, statistics and expenditures, provides program assessments, supervises and evaluates work performance or coordinates bilingual program statewide and provides input on employee issues and program delivery.
