Classification Description

Job Purpose:

Assists Assistant Manager by planning, coordinating, organizing and supervising work of assigned support staff and supervising shipping/receiving, mail order fulfillment and the offsite warehouse including, but not limited to receipt of inbound and outbound freight, entering products into the inventory system, overseeing and participating in the register setups for special events such as Rush and the Book Buyback program, maintaining other equipment including two delivery vans; cleaning Bookstore; purchasing supplies and equipment for shipping/receiving, general cleaning, and mail order fulfillment department; assisting with theft codes, participating member of the department leadership team, and may need to respond to after-hours alarm calls including weekend callouts.

Minimum Qualifications


High School Diploma/GED


1 year of work-related experience

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration, or Other Requirements:

Valid Driver's License

  • General bookstore theory, methods and techniques.
  • Organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures, methods, and techniques.

Characteristc Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Assists Assistant Manager by providing administrative supervision of assigned support staff; prioritizes and assigns work schedules.

Supervises and advises support staff in work methods, procedures and material usage.

Assists in planning and coordination of physical bookstore operations including, but not limited to maintaining permanent fixtures including; keeping fire extinguishers or other equipment up-to-code; replacing light bulbs, and may accompany the Fire Marshall or building inspectors for safety inspections.

Evaluates facilities to determine required maintenance or cleaning work.

Assists Assistant Manager by making hiring recommendations; trains, supervises, and evaluates designated support staff; recommends appropriate disciplinary actions for designated support staff.

Participates on the Bookstore leadership team which consists of the Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor Financial Operations (Bookstore), Bookstore, Buyers (Bookstore), and this position.

Supervises delivery of products and materials; maintains communication with delivery employees through cell phones.

Supervises offsite warehouse, mail order fulfillment operations, and assigned support staff.

Supplemental Functions:

Provides budget recommendations for shipping/receiving, mail order fulfillment, and personnel needs.

Oversees the operations of equipment and provides assistance during special events to keep computerized systems up and running.

May attend technical and management seminars, workshops, and conferences to continue professional development in the area of physical operations.

May serve on departmental and campus committees and work groups.

Performs special project work or other work as assigned by supervisor.

Working Conditions:

Indoor/outdoor/office environment. Exposed to dust, airborne particles, vapors or other hazards associated with equipment or facilities maintenance including floor projects, door, cabinet and general maintenance repairs; may work in confined areas; work with chemical hazards and hazards associated with equipment and facilities maintenance.
