The LGBTQ+ employee network is open to any UW employee who self-identifies as a sexual or gender minority or who is questioning their identity in this regard. We hope to create a sense of community, hold social events, discuss LGBTQ+ specific professional issues, and provide opportunities for mentoring.
The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion LGBTQ+ Employee Network partnered with community organizers of Laramie PrideFest to host a Picnic and Outdoor Trivia event during Pride Month, on June 8, 2021. This event had more than 40 participants consisting of UW faculty and staff and community members. Three rounds of trivia were played with a focus on the LGBTQ+ community and their history. Congratulations Domen Novak, LGBTQ Employee Network Team Leader, on coordinating such a successful program!
We are pleased with the turnout for this event and all that PrideFest does to support the LGBTQ+ Community and its allies.
For our first event we got together in the union to connect and start to get to know each other. Bagels and fruit was provided and 13 people came and shared the space for about an hour. We were able to begin talking about what we hoped the group would become over the next year, but it was very informal as the holidays were approaching.
For our first event of the semester, we had a welcome back BBQ at Dickeys BBQ Pit. We were able to connect and see how folks were doing after the holiday as well as talk through the plan for the rest of the semester. The folks that were able to attend had a fun time and it was good to connect with friends that we do not get to see often throughout our day jobs. We spent about an hour and a half chatting, eating and connecting with colleagues from across campus.
