Boyi Dai and Emily Guseman-have joined the Division of Kinesiology and Health (K&H). After completing his bachelor's degree from Beijing Sport University in 2007 and his master's from Iowa State University in 2009, Dai completed his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in August 2012. His expertise lies in biomechanics, and he is interested in injury biomechanics and sports biomechanics. He utilizes motion, force, EMG measurements, and musculoskeletal modeling to understand the mechanism of exercise and sports-related injuries and provide information about injury prevention and post-injury rehabilitation. He's is particularly interested in applying the knowledge of biomechanics to the developments of effective and efficient injury screening tools and injury prevention programs. Beyond these professional activities, Dai is currently serving as a volunteer assistant coach of the UW Cowgirl's Volleyball Team and enjoys playing volleyball and basketball.He and his wife, Lihan Deng, are expecting their first child - a baby girl - in December.
After completing her bachelor's degree at Pennsylvania State University and here master's at UNC Chapel Hill in 2003, Emily Guseman completed her Ph.D. at Michigan State in 2012. Her expertise lies in physical activity and obesity, and her research interests center on the development of obesity and metabolic syndrome during childhood and adolescence, especially about the time of puberty. More specifically, her research focuses on how stress and psychosocial functioning , sleep habits, and physical activity influence metabolic health and how these relationships vary as children grow and mature. She is also interested in medical management of pediatric obesity and family-basedInterventions to prevent excessive weight gain and improve child health. Gusemen and her husband Doug enjoy hiking, running, and cross-country skiing in their free time.
