Summer High School Institute

School Application Process

The 2017 University of Wyoming Summer High School Institute (HSI) will be held June 4-24 on the Laramie campus. Once again the program will provide the opportunity for many of Wyoming's finest students to participate with UW faculty and staff in an enriching university experience.

The program's success begins with your efforts in the schools. Announcing the opportunity to 10th-grade students, encouraging students to apply, and screening applications takes a great deal of time. We appreciate the care and effort you devote to this project.

School Coordination of Applications

Nominations for the UW Summer HSI should be submitted to UW by principals of Wyoming high schools. In most high schools, one person (such as a counselor or a classroom teacher) is designated to coordinate the applications of interested and qualified students.

The individual coordinating the high school nomination process should:

  • Publicize the HSI poster
  • Establish due dates for receiving completed applications from student to ensure the applications arrive to the by the due date
  • Determine the total number of nominees allowed for the high school (see the "distribution chart" below)
  • Screen the applications to determine the best nominees
  • send the signed "Transmittal Form" and appropriate number of complete applications to the UW Summer High School Institute office
  • Send a copy of the "Transmittal Form" to the district superintendent so that the district office will know which student have been nominated this year
  • Notify the students who have applied whether their applications are or are not being sent to UW as nominees
