Summer High School Institute

Accepted Students

Congratulations on being chosen to participate in this year's Summer High School Institute!

The next step to becoming an official HSI student is to return the Student Packet to the HSI office by mail or by stopping by our office.

This must be done by the deadline.  If you miss the deadline you may not be able to participate in the program because plans and reservations are made far in advance.

As an outstanding Wyoming Student punctuality is important.

Each student will choose a science based class and a humanities based class.  This form will be sent to those students who have been selected to participate in the program.

A list of 2017 classes will be coming soon!!

What to expect?

Each student will be enrolled in one humanities/social science class, one science class, and a personal growth seminar.  Classes challenge imaginations and encourage intellectual growth.  No tests or grades are given.

2017 curriculum will be coming soon!

Dorm Life

All HSI students live together in one resident hall.  Males and females are on separate floors. This enables HSI students and staff to develop the close-knit community feeling of living under one roof.  Rooms are doubles and feature two beds, study desks, and ample closet space.  There are showers and bathrooms are located on each floor and laundry rooms are located in the basement (lessons available).

Program Coordinators will live with the students.  These individuals are available around-the-clock to offer support and guidance.  They will also be responsible for seeing that all rules, regulations, and standards of the program are up help.  Living in the residence hall is considered a privilege.  Each hall establishes certain rules and standards to insure the best possible living conditions for its residents.  As a student living in a residence hall, you have the responsibility to adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, as well as university and housing regulations and policies.

The Project Coordinator, Rene Sanchez, is also available 24 hours a day incase of an emergency.

Food for thought

Summer High School Institute students eat in the dining hall.  They receive three meals a day while on campus.  Included daily is a choice of nutritious entrees, low-fat and vegetarian selections, hot breakfast, salad bar, deli bar, fresh fruit, and a wide selection of deserts and frozen yogurt in a food court atmosphere.

Cost of attending

Each student's room, board, and instructional supplies are paid from funds granted by the Wyoming Legislature to the University of Wyoming.  Student need only provide spending money and travel expenses to and from their homes to the University.

Please bring money for laundry, snacks, occasional trips to downtown stores, souvenirs from the Rockies game, or from field trips.

Additional Activities

The extensive schedule of extracurricular activities, including cultural and social events, will take up the majority of your time, including weekends.  Speakers, performers, films, excursions, special workshops, plays, and concerts offer on going excitement each day of the week.

All students will travel to Denver one day during the three-week program.  This day will consist of a Rockies baseball game, a trip to the IMAX theatre, the Natural History Museum, and/or a stop at the mall to shop.  The Denver day is always changing from year to year depending on events and activities going on in Denver.

Half Acre will be avalible to students in their free time.  The facility offers a wide range of activities such as basketball, volleyball, swimming, and a fully equipped weight room.

Religious services will also be an option for all students.  A schedule and transportation will be provided if a student wishes to attend services.
