Classics Institute

The World of Socrates

June 7-12, 2009, University of Wyoming, Laramie

Open to secondary school teachers, community college faculty and the general public

The tenth annual summer institute will focus on Athens in the late fifth century B.C. - the height of the classical period, the age of high tragedy and the Parthenon, radical democracy, and bold and dangerous new thinking.  It was also the time of Socrates' trial, conviction, and execution, one of the main black marks on the record of Athenian democracy.  The institute is open to teachers and the general public.  The registration fee includes lodging and some meals.  Participants may enroll for two hours of graduate enrichment credit at an additional cost.

Faculty:
Rob Colter, University of Wyoming
Lorenzo Garcia, University of New Mexico
Philip Holt, University of Wyoming
Susann Lusnia, Tulane University

Registration forms are available online and by mail upon request. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, so early registration is encouraged. Registrations are preferred by no later than April 15, 2009.

Participants will have the option of enrolling for two hours of graduate enrichment credit through the University of Wyoming Outreach School for an additional cost of $40 per credit hour.
