ITIL Training and Certification

A group of IT staff members completed an on-site 3-day course in December, 2011, Foundations of IT Service Management from the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), a collection of industry best practices that is known and respected throughout the technology industry world-wide as a standard for excellence. The class describes the key concepts, processes, functions and roles for IT services and prepares attendees for the ITIL Foundation Certificate examination. All 19 IT staff attending the class passed the exam and received certification.

The decision to provide this training opportunity through Hewlett Packard’s Educational Services was made to offer an onsite professional development opportunity to IT employees that provides everyone with the same understanding of how IT services create value for the university and deliver, organizationally, high performance. IT service management is important to continuous improvement of IT productivity and efficiency. In the coming year, additional IT staff will receive education and training for certification to increase IT’s capability to consistently produce quality services in a responsive, timely, and cost-effective manner.
