Computer Workshop Descriptions

Information Technology offers instructor-led computer software training – classes are open to all UW faculty, staff, and students. All instructor-led workshops are held in the Information Technology Center, with one person per computer.

Registration: If you are interested in attending one of the training courses listed, you can reserve a seat by finding the course in the schedule(http://www.uwyo.edu/infotech/services/training/schedule.asp) and clicking the "Register" button. This will take you to the PeopleSoft HRMS site where you can register online for the class and pay with either a departmental P-card or a personal credit card. (if paying with a P-card in your name, choose the "Self-Pay" option. If the P-card is under a supervisor's name, choose the "Department Pay" option. Also make sure pop-ups are enabled on this page.) You can also register for a course by sending an IDR or personal check to the IT Front Desk, Information Technology Center. Please include the participant’s name as well as the name and number of the training course.

If you have any questions, please call Information Technology at 766-2826. Workshop reservations will not be accepted by e-mail or over the phone. If you are located around the state and have access to VTC, please contact us at computer.training@uwyo.edu about attending a course remotely. Once class registration is complete, users will need to contact the Outreach school to schedule a room in which to participate in the course at their location.

Access 2010: Introduction

The aim of this introductory level class is to make databases understandable, and allow the participants to create a database from scratch. Topics to be covered include: database concepts, planning and designing databases, relating tables, changing the design of a table, basic queries, and basic forms and reports.

Access 2010 Intermediate

The Access 2010 Intermediate course will provide in-depth information on queries, forms, and reports. Topics to be covered include: basic queries, complex and advanced queries; creating forms and advanced form design; and working with reports and printing.

Access 2010 Advanced

The advanced class will explore features of Access to help the user customize and better manage their Access database. Topics include: querying with SQL; creating basic and advanced macros; importing, exporting, and linking data; and optimizing and protecting databases.

Excel 2010

Excel 2010 Introduction

This introductory class teaches the basic functions and features in Excel 2010. Topics to be covered include: basic workbook skills, entering and editing data, creating formulas, copying and moving data, formatting text and numbers, working with columns and rows, using page setup, and printing.

Excel 2010: Pivot Tables

Pivot Tables are a great data analysis tool; a Pivot Table report is an interactive tool that automatically extracts, organizes, and summarizes your data. This intermediate/advanced level course will provide in-depth information on creating, managing, and effectively using Pivot Tables in Excel 2010. Topics to be covered include creating and modifying Pivot Tables, creating Pivot Charts, and Pivot Table tips.

Excel 2010 Tips and Tricks

This 90-minute course will cover a variety of topics to help participants use Excel 2010 more efficiently. Tips to be covered include conditional formatting, keyboard shortcuts, logical formulas, absolute references, charts, formatting options, and preparing for printing.

Excel 2010: Managing Worksheets and Workbooks

This intermediate level course teaches students how to manage large sets of data efficiently when multiple worksheets and workbooks are used.  Topics include working with multiple worksheets and workbooks, advanced formatting, consolidating worksheets, outlining and subtotals, using auditing tools, and advanced data management.

Excel 2010 Macros/VBA

This advanced level class will delve into using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to create, run, and edit macros.
Topics include developing macros, creating macros to format worksheets, designing an interactive worksheet, using macros to work with multiple worksheets, and creating user-defined functions.

SharePoint Site Owner

The SharePoint Site Owner training session will review the Governance document, show permissions and how to assign permissions to SharePoint assets, as well as how to create SharePoint libraries, lists, sub-sites, content types, etc.  Users will also be able to customize their site assets.

Web CMS - Template Transition Work Session

The template work session will provide an overview of the changes to the CMS page templates and we will address all questions in relation to these new templates. These workshops will provide an opportunity for content managers to gain hands-on experience with the new templates before the official launch, as well as ensure your pages load correctly during the review stage prior to launch.

TrueCrypt Data Encryption

TrueCrypt is a software system which helps you protect sensitive data by maintaining an encrypted data storage area on your computer. No data stored in an encrypted area can be read without using the correct password and encryption keys. If you store sensitive data, you should consider using data encryption. You can bring in and encrypt a storage device on your laptop, or test it on a lab machine before encrypting your computer.

Web Content Mgt System - Level 1

Learn how to set up your departmental website using the new Web Content Management System.
