2007/2008 Fellowships and Internships

Jon Herrboldt received a State Department internship and worked in the the U.S. Embassy in Paris during Fall 2006. Jon also received a prestigious Arts and Sciences Summer Independent Research Award which provided him with $2,500 to work in an internship with Thanksgiving Coffee Company over the 2007 summer, studying how a small business works in the international arena and researching fair trade practices.
Brianna Jones interned for the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions in Washington D.C. during Spring 2007.
Michael Humbracht received a State Department internship with the Public Affairs section in the U.S. Embassy in Paris during Spring 2007.
Anna Guyton interned at the World Bank in Summer 2007. Anna worked in the Private Sector Finance Division for Africa (AFTPS). She performed research and prepared summary analyses in support of AFTPS unit economic sector work, including writing summaries in French and English on sub-national Investment Climate Issues for publication at World Bank Group Annual Meetings.
 
Adam Liebman, a Master's candidate, received a National Security Education Program (NSEP), David L. Boren Fellowship for 2007-8 academic year. Adam will study Chinese language at Yunnan University in Kunming, China. While in China he will gather data for his thesis research project , the Chinese public’s attitudes and actions towards environmental issues.   
Jason Mundy, a recent Master's graduate, received a Summer 2007 internship with Winrock International. Winrock International. He peformed research for USAID on water users associations (WUAs) in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan to develop the skills and capabilities to effectively plan, maintain, and manage their on-farm irrigation and drainage systems. 
 
Amy Arnold, a Master's candidate, interned during Summer 2007 with Iris, a non-governmental organization that operates a large-scale orphanage as well as several agriculture and economic community development programs throughout the Pemba region in Mozambique.
Dale Novotony and Kendall Peacock, dual majors in environment and natural resources, interned with the Wyoming Conservation Corps during Summer 2007. Interns work on projects such as trail construction, habitat and watershed protection, fencing, improvements to city parks and weatherization of homes for low-income families.
Melissa Hess, a Senior with an interest in global public health, interned at the Laramie Public Health Clinic during Summer 2007. Melissa studied how the cultural background of a patient influences their medical decisions. She also researched alternative health practices.
Kelsey Day interned with the International Scholarship Laureate Program – Delegation on Diplomacy. She traveled to South Africa to participate in an intensive two-week study of historical and current issues including Apartheid, HIV/AIDS, the role of NGO’s and conflict resolution.
Lenna Rice received an internship with the Sports Ambassador Program during Summer 2007. She accompanied a delegation of middle/high school athletes to Austria. She was responsible for the administrative and logistical aspects of the overseas travel and was a team leader for 40 students.
 
Caroline Morris interned at the Brookings Institute in Washington D.C. for the Fall 2007 semester. Caroline worked in communications, organizing various events for scholars, conducting media monitoring on various senior scholars and their research, designing media databases, fielding media calls, writing summaries of scholars research, and editing transcripts and summaries. She also helped planned a conference on Brazil, and a global development book launch on the economic future on Europe.
Tommy Talley received a State Department internship with the Political/Economic Division of the U.S. Consulate General´s office in Düsseldorf, Germany for the Spring 2008 semester. Tommy performs research, travels to schools to give presentations on U.S.-German relations, and will help organize a visit for the U.S. Ambassador.
Jenny Clay is an intern in Senator John Barasso's office in Washington D.C. for the Spring 2008 semester. Senator Barasso is on the Foreign Relations Committee.
Talia Sanders is working for Global Strategies in Bend, Oregon during Summer 2008. Talia has an interest in international business and marketing. She will work on international marketing campaigns and do general research for the company.
Jeminie Shell, a Master's International Peace Corps candidate, will intern with Ducor Waste Management, an NGO dedicated to addressing Liberia's solid waste crisis. Jemnie will spend the 2008 summer in Liberia working with the public to raise community awareness, researching and helping implement safe water storage and treatment to reduce waterborne diseases, and working with other interested agencies, including the World Bank and the International Rescue Committee, to achieve DUCOR’s objectives.
Sam Tolstedt will be an intern for AMIDEAST in Tunisia during Summer 2008. She will facilitate the Learn and Serve Program, which she participated in during Summer 2007 and which UW students will participate in this year
Susannah Tobey received a State Department internship withthe Economic Division of the U.S. Embassy in Vladivostok, Russia for the Summer 2008 semester.
Tera Laub will intern at the Brookings Institute in Washington D.C. in Summer 2008. Tera will work for the Communications Director in the Foreign Policy Studies divsion.
Jennifer Jang, a junior double majoring in international studies and education, will intern at Seattle University as part of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrator (NASPA) Undergraduate Fellows Program. Student Activities, Housing and Residence Life, and the Office of Multicultural Affairs are the primary placement for this internship and the interns are encouraged to explore potential projects in various areas in the Division of Student Development.
Jahna Locke, a Junior, received a U.S. State Deapartment Critical Language Scholarship. She will study Chinese intensively in Harbin, China in Summer 2008.
Sara Hastreiter will participate in an internship during Summer 2008 in St. Croix with VICARE, an HIV orgranization.
Cobus Block received the 2008-2009 Chinese Ambassador's Wyoming Scholarship. The scholarship covers tuition and living expenses for the academic year. Cobus plans to study at Zhejiang Univeristy where he will take Chinese classes and research food supply chains.
Evan Baker received a National Security Education Program (NSEP), David L. Boren Fellowship for the 2008-2009 academic year to study at Yunnan University in Kuming, China. He will study Chinese intensively and do some research on China-Southeast relations.
