A Department of Education, Title VI Grant

Principal Investigator: Dr. Garth Massey, Director, International Studies

Grant Cycle: Year 1- July 1, 2005-June 30, 2006; Year 2- July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007

UW's most recent academic plan recognizes the importance of internationalizing the curriculum and campus. In Spring 2005, the Director of International Studies received a grant for the purpose of expanding the international curriculum at UW. Three avenues for internationalizing the curriculum were identified: creating new courses or revising existing courses; a visiting scholars lecture series; continuation and expansion of non-traditional language courses. Three comittees have been formed to administer grant funds related to each of these avenues:

Course Development Committee - Funding is available for summer salary, travel, graduate assistant help, and course materials to UW and Wyoming Community College faculty interested in developing new courses or revising existing courses. This committee encourages and reviews course development proposals and offers guidance to faculty interested in course development. Year 1 funding has been approved for ten course development proposals. Year 2 funding has been approved for eight course development proposals.

Scholars Lecture Series Committee - This committee is responsible for recruiting speakers who will generate interest in international issues and focus on areas of potential curriculum development. Click here to find out about the lecture series.

Language Committee - This committee encourages and reviews proposals for enhancing nontraditional language offerings. Click here for more information on nontraditional language offerings.

Research materials - Integrating a research experience into internationally focused courses is a central initiative of the Title VI grant. Click here for more information on research materials.
