Sigma Iota Rho - International Studies Honor Society

The University of Wyoming Greek Community officially recognized Sigma Iota Rho (SIR) on August 22, 1984. The University of Wyoming is Delta (the fourth) chapter and also a founding chapter of Sigma Iota Rho.

The selection of the Greek letters was carefully chosen to reflect the characteristics of the three basic qualities of study of international relations: Sigma stands for synesi, which stands for prudence; Iota stands for ideosi, which stands for ideals; Rho stands for romi, which stands for power.

Students are nominated for membership in SIR by their advisors and selected by a faculty committee. A class standing of Junior, Senior, or Master's-level, completion of 12 hours of International Studies courses, and a minimum GPA of 3.2 is required for membership.
