Rock Climbing Adventure

climb prep On June 6, the research group escaped tornado-ravaged Laramie by taking a trip up to Box Canyon at Vedauwoo to barbecue and rock climb. Our climbing expedition was led by graduate students Seth Bassham and Alex Tyrrell, and we were joined by Michael Downey's older brother Tyler. Everyone that tried to climb successfully made it to the top of the technical route. The adventure to get to the base of the rock was almost as technical as the face itself; in both places the rocks were rough and bumpy, easier to hold onto but harder to grip than an indoor wall. After our climb, storms and tornadoes sliced through Laramie. Unaffected by the nearby storm, we feasted on burgers, chicken, corn and chips under calm skies 20 minutes away.
