April 15, 2014 — On March 7, Governor Matt Mead signed legislation approved by the Legislature that opened the door for the federal government to obtain 1,280 acres of state inholdings in Grand Teton National Park.
March 12, 2014 — The Wyoming Supreme Court issued its opinion in Power River Basin Resource Council v. Wyoming Oil and Gas Commission today. The Court was asked to decide on the following single issue: “Did the district court err in determining that the information sought in Appellants’ public records request concerning the identity of certain chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing fluids are exempt from public disclosure as trade secrets under the WPRA?
March 10, 2014 — The Supreme Court issued its opinion this morning in Marvin M. Brant Revocable Trust v. United States, ruling in favor of Fox Park, WY landowner, Marvin Brant 8-1. The lone dissent came from Justice Sotomayor. The Supreme Court decision overturns a 10th Cir. option reached in September of 2012 which found in favor of the United States (and upheld a decision reached by Wyoming Federal District Court in April of 2008).
January 29, 2014 — Governor Matt Mead is proposing that Wyoming and private partners invest in a world-class research center to develop and test new uses for carbon captured from coal-based power plants.
January 17, 2014 — The spending bill passed by Congress and signed by President Obama does not include funding for the payment-in-lieu of taxes (“PILT”) program that provides Western counties with much needed funding.
January 17, 2014 — On Friday, January 10, 2013 EPA Regional Administrator for Region 8, Shaun McGrath, signed a final decision partially rejecting Wyoming’s regional haze state implementation plan (“SIP”).
December 11, 2013 — Governor Mead released a statement providing information on his proposal to include a $3 Million allocation in the state budget to address an estimated backlog of 1,220 abandoned wells on state and private land in Wyoming.
November 15, 2013 — The University of Wyoming College of Law's Center for Law and Energy Resources in the Rockies (CLERR) and School of Energy Resources (SER) hosted a conference titled A Landscape Discussion on Energy Law in Wyoming.
September 24, 2013 — CLERR to co-host an energy law conferences with the School of Energy Resources.
September 21, 2013 — On September 20, 2013, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy signed a notice submitting the EPA’s revised Proposed Carbon Pollution Standard for New Power Plants for publication in the Federal Register.
April 2, 2013 — Two University of Wyoming College of Law teams finished among the top eight teams during the recent third annual National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition at the West Virginia University College of Law.
