Experiential Learning

The University of Wyoming College of Law provides several experiential learning opportunities in which students gain knowledge and experience while they explore their own legal interest outside the classroom through "hands on" programs. Students develop valuable lawyering skills, a greater understanding of the law as it is applied in real life situations and receive an introduction to how legal institutions operate.
The College of Law offers four clinical programs: Defender Aid, Legal Services, Domestic Violence, and Prosecution Assistance in addition to the Center for International Human Rights Law and Advocacy Practicum and the Natural Resources Practicum. Each program is designed to expose students to a wide range of real experience in the practice of law.
Students at the College of Law may also participate in the Summer Trial Institute. A new program providing an intense two-week course that culminates with the students trying a jury trial in front of sitting Wyoming judges who have volunteered for the program.
Students may also apply for positions in the externship program which provides second and third year students with an opportunity to learn through practice by working directly with attorneys or judges for academic credit. Externship placements are limited to judges, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
If you need additional information or have questions about any of the programs offered, please contact the College of Law at (307) 766-6416 or lawmain@uwyo.edu.
