GRADUATE student fellowships consist of a research assistantship to work on a materials science research project for their MS ($15,000) or PhD ($20,000) degree. Research must relate to a NASA goal or mission. Awards include monthly stipend, health insurance, and tuition waiver. The award will be for the academic year, plus one month of summer salary.
Faculty research grants provide funding of up to $20,000 for faculty members working on a materials science-related research project. Projects must also relate to a NASA goal or mission, and show a strategic plan to connect with a NASA Center, scientist, or engineer. The funding can be used for summer salary, student or post-doc salary, travel, and/or supplies. The award period is from June - June.
