The Math Assistance Center (MAC) provides free mathematics assistance to UW students enrolled in 1000 and 2000 level Math classes.
Math Assistance Center (MAC) tutors are part-time instructors, math department graduate students, or well qualified undergraduates. At any time, there is at least one tutor on duty, and more are scheduled during peak times. Also, there is a good chance that people from your class are also in the Math Assistance Center (MAC), so there is frequently some collaborative learning going on.
The Math Assistance Center (MAC) is informal. We don't make appointments, and you are welcome to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and study for any of your courses in the lab. You may stay 10 minutes or all day. Come to check your math work, or to ask the helpers to guide you through a problem or a procedure. Maybe you just need to talk about a concept, such as "What is a derivative, really?" Math Assistance Center (MAC) helpers will try to accommodate your needs. The best help can be given when you are best prepared to receive it. Organize your questions and mark the sections in your textbook that you don't understand.
The Math Assistance Center (MAC) has 9 desktop PCs on the UW Student Network. Since many math classes have an online homework component, the Math Assistance Center (MAC) is a great place to come to do your work.
