About Mr. Spitler

John Spitler joined the University of Wyoming faculty in 2000. He came to the University of Wyoming from Washington University and Jackson Hole, WY.

John Spitler spent his youth in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. He moved to Jackson, Wyoming in the Fall, 1978 , where he discovered the Great Outdoors, which all of Wyoming is famous for. After five rather adventurous years filled exclusively with climbing, skiing, paddling, and mysteriously supported through carpentry, he moved to the University of Wyoming on a part-time basis, splitting his time between Laramie and Jackson.

His M.S. research concentrated in Combinatorics. It continued in the Ph.D. program studying Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling.

In Fall, 1994, he became an Assistant Research Scientist in the UW Institute for Scientific Computation (ISC). During his six year tenure at ISC, he discovered a great satisfaction in working with students.
