University of Wyoming Double Bass Studio
University Symphony Orchestra Bass Section, 2006
Students in the UW double bass studio perform regularly as part of the University Symphony Orchestra, the UW Chamber Orchestra, and are an integral part of the Jazz Studies program. Students also perform as part of the UW Bass Ensemble. In 2007 the Quartet performed for student members of the Municipal Orchestra of El Alto, Bolivia. UW bassists play with area symphonies as well as in jazz and pop groups. Alumni of the studio have won the prestigious Theodore Presser Scholarship award for academic and musical excellence. UW bassists have attended the Aspen Music Festival, Centrum Jazz Festival, and pursued graduate studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, the USC Thornton School of Music and the University of Idaho. Alums have gone on to successful careers in performance, music management, and teaching.
