The Oral Proficiency Interview by Computer (OPIc) Registration

Are you on the UW Campus and want to schedule the online Oral Proficiency Interview?

Steps and Information Required to set up the OPIc:

1. Apply, Schedule and Pay the Proctor Fee ($25)

Print the Application and fill out the student information

Go to the Cashier’s at Knight Hall, show the form, and pay your $25 OPIc proctoring fee and get a receipt.

2. Register online and pay the OPIc Testing Fee ($70)

Stop by Hoyt Hall 114  with the original form and cashier’s receipt.

Once you are there, you will schedule the test and pay $70 online with a credit card.

Go to www.languagetesting.com

  1. Mouse over “Sign In,” and click on “Test Candidates.”
  2. Click “Testing for a school…”
  3. “Buy a Test”,
  4. Read the information and  “Get started”
  5. “Testing for State Teacher Certification”: click NO
  6. Enter “University of Wyoming-Teaching Assistant Applicants” and Continue
  7. Read  Welcome information and Continue
  8. Select language: “English”, and Continue
  9. Click on Internet Speaking Test  OPIc ($70), and Continue
  10. Checkmark the description that is closest to your English oral skills, and Continue
  11. Select proctor location: University of Wyoming. View contact & pricing information. Continue
  12. Provide requested information. First choice: Fill in the test date and time you scheduled with Mollie Hand. Second choice: any day/time after your scheduled time (it doesn’t matter).
  13. Review order and Continue
  14. Provide requested information
  15. Submit

Language Testing International (LTI) will send you an email confirmation of your order.

3. Test

At your scheduled test time, please come to Hoyt Hall 114. Bring a valid ID.

Mollie will set up the OPIc for you at our Testing Lab.

4. Results

Three to five days after the test, LTI (Language Testing International) will send you an email to view your test results. Please forward the PDF file of your OPIc Certificate to your department AND

upload it to Salesforce in the section where you uploaded your TOEFL scores (contact Admissions for help with this process).

How is the Oral Proficiency Interview conducted?

The ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview, or OPI, is a live, 20-30 minute telephone conversation between a certified ACTFL tester and the candidate. It is a valid and reliable test that measures how well a person speaks a language. The procedure is standardized in order to assess global speaking ability, measuring language production holistically by determining patterns of strengths and weaknesses. Can I schedule the test before I arrive and take it on campus?

Yes. First contact Mollie Hand to schedule a time that fits. Then you can register online (step 2). Once you arrive in Laramie, you can fill out the above application and pay the proctor fee (step 1).
