Instructor of Russian language, folklore, and literature courses; former coordinator for Russian language section. From 1991 Mr. Krafczik served as Russia study-abroad organizer, and from 1993 served as Coordinator for the Saratov Study Abroad Program, working as UW administrator and faculty chaperone under this program in Saratov, Russia. 1988 Golden Apple Teaching Award; 1995 A&S Extraordinary Merit in Teaching Award; 1998 recipient of Ellbogen Award for Meritorious Classroom Teaching; 2008 recipient of UW Mortar Board's "Top Prof" Award; 2009 Promoting Intellectual Engagement (PIE) Award; 2010 Promoting Intellectual Engagement (PIE) Award; 2014 College of Arts & Sciences Thumbs-up Award. 2017 Emeritus Senior Lecturer.

Research Interests

Russian folklore and pre-Christian Slavic mythology.
