Language Minor Requirements

Hello Chinese

Language Minor Requirements

Students desiring to complete a minor in a foreign language must complete a program of 18 credit hours above 2030 with a grade of a C or better.  The requirements for individual languages are as follows:

Chinese

  • CHIN 2040 Second Year Chinese II (4)
  • *CHIN 2041  Contemporary Chinese Culture (3)
  • *CHIN 3050 Intermediate Composition and Conversation I (3)
  • *CHIN 3065 Intermediate Composition and Conversation II (3)
  • CHIN 3055 Business Chinese (3)
  • *CHIN 4070 Business Chinese II (3)

    Total Credit Hours -- 18; *12 credits of coursework earned through study abroad to China

Classical Civilizations

  • CLAS 2020 Classical Greek Civilization (3)            or HIST 2120 Greece & Ancient Near East (3)
  • CLAS 2040 Classical Roman Civilization (3)          or HIST 2130 Ancient Rome (3)
  • Electives – 12 hours chosen from Classics 3000-level or above.  Up to 6 hours of Latin at the 3000-level or above may be counted as electives.  Other courses about Ancient Mediterranean cultures that are not taught under Classics may be submitted for approval as electives to the advisor for the minor.

French

  • FREN 2140 Introduction to Reading (3)
  • FREN 2040 Beginning Composition and Conversation (3)
  • FREN 3050 Intermediate Composition and Conversation I (3)
  • Electives -- 9 hours chosen from French at the 3000-level or above
    (at least six of these hours must be at the 4000 level)

    Total Credit Hours -- 18

German

  • GERM 2140 Introduction to Literature (3)
  • GERM 2040 Beginning Composition and Conversation (3)
  • GERM 3050 Intermediate Composition and Conversation I (3)
  • Electives -- 9 hours chosen from German at the 3000-level or above
    (at least six of these hours must be at the 4000-level)

Japanese

  • JAPN 2040 Second Semester Japanese II (4)
  • JAPN 3050 Third Year Japanese I (3)
  • Electives -- 12 hours chosen from:
    • LANG 2150 Manga: History and Culture (3)
    • LANG 3105 Major Themes in Chinese and Japanese Literature (3)
    • LANG 3140 Anime: History and Culture (3)
    • HP 2151/4151 Modern Japanese Society and Culture (3)
    • JAPN 4990 Advanced Independent Study
    • HIST 2460 Traditional Japan
    • HIST 2461 Modern Japan
    • JAPN 3060 Intermediate Composition and Conversation I (3)
    • JAPN 4070 Advanced Composition and Conversation I (3)
    • JAPN 4080 Advanced Composition and Conversation II (3)

Latin

  • Electives -- 7 hours chosen from Latin at the 3000-level or above

Russian

  • RUSS 2040 Second Year Russian II (3)
  • RUSS 2140 Intro to Reading (3)
  • RUSS 3050 Third Year Russian I (3)
  • Electives -- 9 hours from Russian at the 3000-level or above (coursework at the 3000-level or higher from study-abroad courses at Saratov University is also accepted: http://www.uwyo.edu/saratovstudy/)

    Total Credit Hours -- 18

Spanish

  • Eighteen hours of electives in Spanish at the 2000 level or above (excluding Spanish 2030).

    Total Credit Hours -- 18
