Keyboards at UW

The Keyboard Area of the Department of Music at the University of Wyoming offers the:

Led by internationally recognized faculty, the goal of the degree program is to help students become professionally competitive musicians through the incorporation of performance, pedagogy, and literature in a performance-intensive environment.

Studying keyboard at UW ensures well-rounded training in academics and professional skills which equip students to seek careers as solo performers, collaborative pianists, and teachers. It also prepares students for DMA applications. 

Keyboard Area faculty have performed in countries across the globe and are members of the Music Teachers National Association and the Historical Keyboard Society of North America.  Their mission is to provide the highest level of instruction in an inspirational and rewarding academic environment. 


  • Solo recitals

  • Collaborative piano performances
  • Playing harpsichord in chamber orchestra performances
  • Serving as an orchestral pianist
  • Concerto performance with the UW Symphony as a finalist in the Dorothy Jacoby Honors competition
Students of UW piano faculty have been prize winners, finalists, and semi-finalists in numerous competitions including:

  • Schimmel USASU International Piano Competition for Young Pianists

  • Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra National Young Artist Competition
  • National Young Artist Competition at Odessa College
  • Jefferson Symphony Young Artists’ Competition
  • Grand Junction Symphony Young Artist Competition
  • MTNA performance competitions

UW Cultural Programs, as well as the Eminent Artist-in-Residence endowed professorship, bring world-renowned guest artists and ensembles to campus for concerts and clinics.

Past artists have included Jean Ives Thibaudet, Emmanuel Ax, Barry Douglas, Hélène Grimaud, Peter Serkin, Gabriela Martinez, Stephen Hough, Lise de la Salle, Jon Nakamatsu, Andras Schiff, Frederic Chiu, Christopher O’Riley, Davide Cabassi, and Leon Fleischer.
