UW Opera Theatre produces full-scale productions in collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Dance, as well as one acts and opera scene productions in the Studio Theatre. Recent operatic and musical theatre collaborative productions
include Gay's The Beggar's Opera, Gilbert and Sullivan's The Gondoliers, Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, Loesser's Guys and Dolls, Bock's Fiddler on the Roof, and Sondheim's Into the Woods. Recent studio productions have included the scenes program "It's in the Mail!," and Purcell's one act Dido and Aeneas. In addition, UW Opera Theatre has collaborated with the UW Symphony Orchestra in staged concert versions of Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Donizetti's Don Pasquale.
UW Opera Theatre is dedicated to providing a meaningful and imaginative theatrical and musical experience for all singers at the University of Wyoming. Majors in any discipline who demonstrate vocal beauty, dramatic skills and overwhelming enthusiasm are encouraged to participate. Its long-term goal is to make a significant artistic contribution to the University community, and to enhance the sultural vitality of the state.
Opera Theatre's primary aim is to train students to blend the complex arts of movement and singing into a meaningful and communicative artistic "moment." We strive to instill a respect and dedication for all music theatre forms, and to inspire a strong sense of the artist's role in society.
