Dr. Lamartine's choirs have enjoyed intensive collaborations and exchanges with some of the world's most prominent musicians. The UW Vocal Jazz ensemble performed with the acclaimed New York Voices in October of 2009 and the Collegiate Chorale worked with Stephen Jackson (choral director of the BBC Symphony Chorus) in March. In October 2009, Dr. Lamartine brought the UW male a cappella group, "The Happy Jacks" to Shanghai, China to perform and exchange with Shanghai Normal University and Jian Qiao College. Her Singing Statesmen will perform the Mozart Vespers in Carnegie Hall in March 2010.
In demand
as a conductor and clinician, Dr. Lamartine was chosen in 2009 to participate in
a conducting master class with Maestro Helmuth Rilling at Carnegie Hall. She has
adjudicated choral festivals, solo and ensemble festivals across Iowa, Arizona,
Wyoming and Colorado and adjudicated Iowa All-State choral auditions. In 2009
she was the co-chair for the National ACDA Collegiate and University Honor
Chamber Choir that performed in Oklahoma City in March. Her clinics focus on
vocal pedagogy in the choral rehearsal and Laban Movement Analysis and
Bartenieff Fundamentals, which promote efficient movement and its use in
creating and inviting artistic experiences. She has prepared choruses for Ann
Howard Jones and acted as diction coach to the London BBC Symphony Chorus (UK).
A devoted technician of the voice, Dr. Lamartine has taught voice lessons and
seminars in London, Vienna, and across the U.S.
In addition to teaching,
Dr. Lamartine enjoys an active performing career, including solo recitals in
Cardiff (Wales) and London. She is a sought-after professional choral musician
holding professional choral positions in the Grammy-nominated Conspirare chamber
choir (Austin, TX) conducted by Craig Hella Johnson and the Santa Fe Desert
Chorale (Joshua Haberman, conductor). She has sung under the batons of Helmuth
Rilling, Charles Dutoit, and Craig Hella Johnson in the US and Jn Mrkl, Sakari
Oramo, Jii Blohlvek, Sir Andrew Davis, Martyn Brabbins, James MacMillan, David
Hill, Simon Halsey, and Stephen Jackson in Europe. Her extensive operatic
experience includes the title role in Massenet's Cendrillon, Zerlina in
Don Giovanni, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Papagena in Die
Zauberflte, Rose in Street Scene, the title role in Gilbert and
Sullivan's Patience, Yum-yum in Mikado, and Mrs. Alice Ford in
Falstaff. She is a member of the "Fresh Aire Trio" with faculty
colleagues Katrina Zook and Maureen Sorensson. Furthermore, her love of jazz,
blues, and country music has led to various gigs including singing back-up for
Barry Manilow and Linda Ronstadt.
Dr. Lamartine is a member of the
American Choral Directors Association, the National Association of Teachers of
Singing, the College Music Society, Music Educators National Conference, and is
a past member of the Association of British Choral Directors. She is the
President of the Wyoming state chapter of the American Choral Directors
Association.
