Kaori Uno-Jack

Mrs. Kaori Uno-Jack has performed nationally and internationally as both soloist and chamber musician, earning many awards and much recognition. She won the Honor Competition at the University of Colorado twice (2004 and 2007), placed fifth of 137 bassoonists at the 24th Japan Wind and Percussion Competition in 2007, and was a finalist in the Tsuyama Japan International Double Reed Competition in 2003.

She is a member of award winning woodwind quintet, Antero Winds. They are based in the Colorado front range area and play recitals and outreach concerts across the western states. Antero won first prize at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition and a silver medal at the prestigious Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. In 2008, they were the only US-based semi-finalists at the International Chamber Music Competition in Lyon, France.

Kaori is a member of the Colorado Ballet and Boulder Chamber Orchestra. She has played with the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Boulder Philharmonic, Greeley Philharmonic, Colorado Music Festival, String Music Festival (Steamboat Springs, CO) and many other ensembles throughout Colorado and Wyoming.

Kaori has been the Bassoon Instructor and Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Rocky Ridge Music Center since 2009. She is also a faculty member at the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts.

She participated in the National Repertory Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival and School, Kyoto International Music Student Festival, and the Colorado MahlerFest Orchestra. As a member of the Japanese Double Reed Society bassoon ensemble, she performed at the conference of the 2001 International Double Reed Society in West Virginia. Kaori has also performed in a bassoon octet at the fifth Tokyo Double Reed Festival in 2002.

Kaori graduated with her Artist Diploma in bassoon performance at the University of Colorado at Boulder in May 2009 after receiving her Master of Music degree at CU in 2008. Kaori graduated from the Aichi Prefecture University of Fine Arts and Music in Japan as one of four outstanding graduating seniors in the class of 2003. Her principal teachers include Yoshiyuki Ishikawa, Ryohei Nakagawa, Yoshiaki Aotani and Yoshiyuki Nakanishi.

Kaori lives in Boulder with her husband, Brian Jack, who is also a bassoonist and founding member of the Boulder Bassoon Quartet.
