Home From School

Film Screening

November 2021 is National Native American Heritage Month!

On November 4th, 6:00pm @ A&S Auditorium

Please Join Us for a special film screening of Home From School; The Children of Carlisle, a documentary about a band of Northern Arapaho tribal elders and youth journeys from the Wind River Reservation to Pennsylvania in 2017 to retrieve the bodies of three children buried at Carlisle Indian boarding school over a century ago. They battle the U.S. Army bureaucracy, white community indifference, and their own dark chapter in American history, in a triumphant quest to bring the boys from and heal historic wounds.

Following the film there will be a panel with the makers of the documentary, Yufna Soldier Wolf (Northern Arapaho), Jordan Dresser (Northern Arapaho), Sophie Barksdale, and Juwan Willow (Northern Arapaho)

A big thank you to our sponsors; ASUW & Keepers of the Fire Student Organization, as well as the Native American & Indigenous Studies department, School of Culture Gender & Social Justice, the NAERCC, Social Justice Research Center, CSIL, and Multicultural Affairs.

On behalf of the University of Wyoming Native American Education, Research, and Cultural Center; we ask students, staff, faculty, and the community of the University of Wyoming to please hold space for our Native/indigenous students, staff, and faculty, and communities on campus. We want everyone to remember that it is not just this month we celebrate being indigenous, we take pride in our rich culture and identity every day! It is also a time that we want to educate and share knowledge of who we are and where we come from with the broader UW campus and communities.

It is important to remember and acknowledge the ancestral land that the University of Wyoming sits on. We will continue to encourage our UW Campus to use the ASUW land acknowledgment that was passed unanimously to be read at their meetings and which we also use at the NAERCC. Please see below:

“We collectively acknowledge that the University of Wyoming occupies the ancestral and traditional lands of the Cheyenne, Arapaho, Crow, and Shoshone Indigenous peoples along with other Native tribes who call the Great Basin and Rocky Mountain region home. We recognize, support, and advocate alongside Indigenous individuals and communities who live here now, and with those forcibly removed from their Homelands.”

This month please show your support and participate in our Native American Heritage month events!

We would greatly appreciate the support from our UW and Laramie community and of course anyone else who would be interested.

Special thanks to all who have helped us and collaborated to make these events possible. If you have any questions please feel free to contact any of us at the NAERCC.

*PLEASE SEE ATTACHED FLYERS AND HELP US SPREAD THE WORD! FEEL FREE TO SHARE TO ANYONE YOU THINK WOULD BE INTERESTED!
