Winter Activities

Snowshoeing in the Medicine Bow Forest

The Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest and Snowy Range Mountains are both excellent places to snowshoe/snow hike. The road to the Snowy Range Mountains closes in the winter making the area around the mountain a great place to play in the snow.

Cross-country skiing in the Happy Jack Wilderness

Several of the Wilderness areas maintain cross-country ski trails during the winter. Some even have hot chocolate huts along the way!

Downhill skiing

There are many ski areas near Laramie. Snowy Range Ski Area is 45 minutes and many of Colorado's famous ski resorts are within 2-3 hours of Laramie, including Copper Mountain, Winter Park, Breckenridge, and Arapahoe Basin. Steamboat Springs, a favorite of many faculty and students, is 2 hours away. The Neuroscience group takes and ski trip in December each year to Steamboat Springs.

Summer Activities

Hiking/Rock Climbing/Camping

From Vedauwoo to the east, Snowy Range Mountains to the west, Horseshoe Canyon and the Never Summer Forest to the South, there are abundant opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, and camping. Laramie is about 3 hours from Rocky Mountain National Park, 4 hours from the Wind River Mountain Range, 6 hours from Grand Teton National Park, and 8 hours from Yellowstone National Park. 

Mountain Biking

The Happy Jack Wilderness 15 minutes east of Laramie boasts 30+ miles of mountain biking in Tie City-Happy Jack Trail System. There are 7+ miles of easy trails if you are new to the sport!

Downtown Laramie Farmer's Market

Every Friday there is a Farmer's Market that covers several block of the Downtown area and provides good food, music, and activities.

Cheyenne Frontier Days/Laramie Jubilee Days

Frontier Days and Jubilee Days occurs in early July each year. Both celebrations include, rodeo competitions, food competitions, concerts, and other activities for all ages. The Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo regularly wins "Largest Outdoor Rodeo" and hosts many rodeo champions.
